Return to Tokyo - 14 Oct

Choral Concert at Australian Embassy

Today we travelled by Shinkansen, back to Tokyo and back 'home' to Kichijoji. It was a lateish start for us today and quite relaxing, but once we started packing and getting ready to checkout, then began the rollercoaster ride of lugging bags to stations, up stairs, down stairs, around stations, up stairs, down stairs, from stations, home and finally…. up stairs! By 3pm we were back at our ‘’house’’ in Kichijoji and had two hours rest before we had to get ready to take the train back into the city, to the Australian Embassy for a concert and dinner. Thank goodness that Keiko, Jun and John, all came by to show us the way, I was already tired from the mornings navigating round stations, so it was so nice just to tag along.

The kids and I were lucky enough to be invited to see the Tokyo Agricultural University Mens Choir sing at a private Embassy function. The Choir has been coming to Australia for almost years or so now and performs at several cities and country towns each time. When I was in year 7 at Cowra High School, my family billeted a student of the choir for 3 days, I think. The choir also has ties with Seikei, so the current and past exchange students and families were there as well as John (my Japanese teacher from Cowra high, who now teaches at Seikei). The concert was beautiful of course and after the concert before dinner was served, the Ambassador, Embassy staff and guests all sang a rousing course of Waltzing Matilda for the fun of it. Thank goodness the choir was scattered round the room, made us all sound great!

After dinner, which I unfortunately missed out on due to the constant chatting…not my fault, we went home early (9ish) as it was a school night and we were seeing the current students part of the way home. It was after 10 when we got home and thankfully as always, there was a 7-11 on the way home and I got an ‘’onigiri’’ (Japanese rice ball, similar to sushi) for dinner before I fainted.
